Wheelpower | Engaging Wheelchair Participants in Sport

At the start of this year I began working with Wheelpower, delivering training sessions via Zoom.

The course I am facilitating is Engaging Wheelchair Participants in Sport. During the training, attendees will learn about WheelPower and wheelchair sports more widely, explore different ways of including disabled people in wheelchair sports, develop confidence in working with physically disabled people and learn the basics of sports wheelchair setup.

The course is free and suitable for a wide variety of people. Are you a teacher, coach, sports or physio student striving to adapt your sports session for wheelchair participants? Then this training is for you. I will provide you with ideas on how to engage wheelchair users during your sessions. Using both theory and practical elements, I will demonstrate how to include a wheelchair user within both disabled and non-disabled sports sessions. You will also learn some basics around different wheelchair sports including their rules and sport specific equipment. If you’re interested in signing up, head to Wheelpowers website for more information.

I’m so pleased to be delivering this course for Wheelpower, an organisation very close to my heart, the birthplace of the Paralympic Games and the place where I first discovered my love for sport when I was just five years old. The memories I have from being a youngster at Stoke Mandeville I will cherish for a lifetime and the opportunities the stadium offered me are certainly the reason I became successful in my chosen sports for as long as I did.
